The Christian Science Monitor published a report for Dan Murphy, entitled:War against Iran

It reports that Tension over Iran’s nuclear program have escalated in recent weeks as the USand Europeramp up sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The report indicates that the country’s currency took a nosedive after President Obamasigned legislation on Dec. 31 targeting Iran’s Central Bank. Tehranhas responded with threats to cut off the Strait of Hormuz, a vital corridor for international oil shipments. The response of the West was to intensify military presence in the Gulf.
The report then presents a few questions and answer them, including:What are the odds of armed conflict? The report answers that the short answer for this year is “low.” But all the muscle flexing in recent months has increased the risk.As for the strength of the Iranian army, the report indicates that the United States has overwhelming military superiority compared to Iran.In a conventional conflict, the United States will be able to win easily any war against Iran thanks to its cruise missiles, fighter aircraft, the big guns attached to its vessels in the Persian Gulf. The report indicates that the United States annually spends 80 times more than Iran spends on its defence forces, and that us economy is larger than the Iranian economy, allowing it to survive with the war’s costs more than Iran.
Regarding the impact of sanctions targeting Iranian Central Bank? The report stated that the draft law signed by President Obama targeting Iran’s Central Bank, prevents the financial institutions from doing business in America in case they have connection with the Iranian Central Bank. However, the report indicates that practically, it is almost certain that the U.S. will be selective in applying this law.For example, it is not possible that US would stop dealing with China Bank, a huge buyer of the debts of the United States of America. It indicates that the law aims to reduce the number of commercial banks that want to deal with Iran. The report raise a question at its end, will the sanctions work? Indicating that the Iranian currency has lost 30% of its value against the U.S. dollar in early January. It also confirms that prohibiting importing oil from Iran will deepen the economic isolation of Iran, especially with the Western refrain from buying Iranian oil. It is well known that Europe buys about 15% of the Iran’s oil exports. The Asian countries have also begun contacts with the oil-producing countries to compensate their imports in case of banning oil import from Iran.

Alsharq Alawsat Newspaper also published on Tuesday 10/1/2012, an article for Radwan Alsayed entitled: Contemporary Islam:Reflections on the present and the future

«Contemporary Islam» is a title for one of my books published in 1987. It consists of a collection of essays written between 1985 and 1987. The book gives a precise description of thecurrent dilemma of Islamic conflict on three levels:the conflictbetween Muslim traditionalists and innovators, between Islam and the state and between Islam and the outside world.
I completely lost my quiet contemplation that featured:«Contemporary Islam» (1987) while writing «Struggle for Islam» (2004). Its writing came at a time in which The United States (2001) had been attacked by The Salafist jihadist, Afghanistan and Iraq were invaded and global war on terrorism was waged! So I went to write again about the destructive triangle:The conflict within Islam, the conflict between Islamists and the regimes in the Arab and Islamic worlds and the conflict between Islamists and the outside world. The conflict within Islam led to a split regarding the Islamic reference of education and Fatwa.Al Azhar is no longer the only school for knowledge, nor the only institution to issue fatwas among Sunni Muslims. It is true that Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi and some of his students belong to Al-Azhar – however they disagree with Al-Azhar due to its stance from the ruling regime. in addition, they all joined the Muslim Brotherhood group in a period of time.On the other hand, religious institutions have been suffering a lot of troubles caused by authorities to considerably weaken their role .It is true that the clashes between the violent and non-violent Islamist and regimes continued to increase – However, the struggle between Islamists and the world powers especially with the United States has dominated the scene. Thus, Islam is being subjected-due to many parties who hold its banner- to unbearable pressure that justifies many violent reactions in different parts. I have seen that this clash which could lead to destruction and devastation, has extended to affect the religious and cultural aspects spoiling them. As a result, terms like «Clash of Civilizations», the green peril and the Islamic and the Arab exception have spread broadly. Moreover, the military, cultural and religious pressures have reached a limit that conflicts could turn with it into destructive religious and cultural ones over generations!.
I thought that the clash will be always restricted between the islamists form one side and the ruling regimes and the outside world form the other. I have never expected that it will turn one day to be between the dominating presence for Islamic parties and hundreds of thousands of young people who went to the streets of Arab cities calling for freedom, dignity and democracy. However, both powers are agreed upon peaceful transition and going to ballot box. The question here is will this indirect communication turn into direct one that supports stability and democratization, and get religion out of the political game?!Or will old powers continue to emphasize fanaticism in all of its forms, hindering the intellectual, cultural and political development.

Al-Madina Newspaper published on Friday 6/1/2012, an article by Ayad Qarni entitled: Come to the holy text
Respecting mind requires from whoever attributes himself to Shari`a or religion to focus on the original texts of Qur`an and Sunnah more than their explanations. Non but the original text that God through which enlightens the hearts, blesses the mind and confers insight on. It is only the original text that is meant to be understood, contemplated and studied. The parable of those who twist the texts in their speeches and explanations is like the parable of one who got a precious pearl out of the depth of the sea and then kept touching it until its brightness has gone.

As you can find the purest water of a river at its mouth, the most useful thing of the text is directly reading Qur`an, Sunnah and try to consider them deeply, God says:(Do they not then consider the Qur’ân carefully?) [An-Nisaa: 82]. The most fresh drops of rain are those which don’t touch the earth mixing with the dust and the best of texts are those who are directly read without commentaries. The so many commentaries for religious texts available today are nothing but a result for mind stagnancy and loss of spirit and enthusiasm in the ages of weakness. Did the companions of the prophet have such unlimited number of commentaries on Qur`an and Sunnah!? Surely not, since they directly understood the texts which are clear and plain in language. If it happened that such commentaries had existed in the age of companions, they wouldn’t have enjoyed interacting with Qur`an and Sunnah due to effort lost in reading and listening to the other`s commentaries.
The best thing in the life of the companions was their complete dedication to the revelation, enormous devotion to the original text and increased eagerness to the religious discourse. Among the greatest deeds of the companions was reliance on their own insight to simply understand Qur`an and Sunnah without any complexity.
The companions were little in words and therefore deep in knowledge and great in understanding. They know the exact truth, learnt the ropes and remained in middle distance. They realized how clear and miraculous is Qur`an, so they got humbled to its eloquence and guided by its light. They realized that sunnah is the sayings of the most eloquent man, so they simply understood it without an increase or decrease. Quran is so eloquent and clear in its language, but people who introduce commentaries and explanations for it are almost making it lose it its brightness and beauty. It is better for Muslims to give no more commentaries and contemplate the religious texts in silence to simply understand its purposes and discover its miracles.
I am amazed at such huge volumes of explanations that whenever I read them my mind feel nothing but more distraction and stagnancy. However, when I get back to read Qur`an directly, I get the meaning from the first time whereas the Our`an`s words are so plain and clear.
